How Long Will a Spider Stay in Your Room?

A spider will stay in your room as long as it has enough insects to feed on, or until you decide to kill it, remove it, or exterminate it.

How Long Will a Spider Stay in Your Room

Spiders are very resilient creatures. They’re capable of going up to several months without water or food and there have even been people who claim that spiders can survive for up to 2 years without food.

They’re also very patient and create intricate structures that enable them to catch insects off-guard and have plenty of food on their plate. They’ll also multiply quickly if given the chance, especially if they can find ample food in your room to feed their offspring.

How Long Will a Spider Stay in Your Room?

Spiders will stay in your room for several months or potentially even years, especially if they have enough food and you don’t decide to kill them.

Some people see spiders as a means of pest control, which is why they keep spiders longer in their homes. The good thing about having a spider in your room for a longer period of time is that it will get rid of all the annoying insects you might have lurking in your room: mosquitoes, flies, and others.

On the other hand, some people see spiders as a nuisance and are even scared of spiders. Fear of spiders is called arachnophobia and it is an intense fear that forces people to remove spiders from their rooms or kill them.

Spiders can also stay in cars for months at a time.

How long a spider will stay in your room will also depend on how well the spider hides. The majority of spiders are very good at hiding, so you might not even know you have them in your room. Other spiders, like daddy-long-legs, tend to hang out on the ceiling where the majority of the insects are, so it might be easier to spot them.

Spiders that hide well are harder to spot and thus, might be able to survive in your room for longer periods of time. On the other hand, some spider species that don’t hide might not be able to live for long periods.

Is It OK If You Leave a Spider in Your Room?

For the vast majority of people, it should be OK if they leave the spider in their room. That’s because of several reasons:

  • The vast majority of spiders are not harmful to humans. The species that can be potentially deadly for humans don’t live in homes anyway, and the species that do live in homes don’t have a venom that’s deadly enough to kill a human.
  • Secondly, spiders will not attack you without a reason. In fact, the majority of spiders are scared of humans and will run away from them. That’s why there are so few spider bite deaths per year
  • Lastly, having spiders in your room might even be beneficial for you. They’re a good way to control insect populations in your room, as they will enable you to stay free of mosquitoes, flies, and other insects that might be bothersome.

However, if you have arachnophobia, or if you’re allergic to spider bites, then it’s probably best to remove it from your room or have someone else do it for you.

Some people will experience an anaphylactic shock after a spider bite, which is when it’s crucial to remove spiders from your room if you have such a reaction after a spider bite.

A good indicator of whether you do suffer from this condition is if you have had problems with allergies to bites before. This includes bites from insects or other bugs that might cause such a reaction.

What Attracts Spiders To Your Room?

house spider

Spiders are attracted by insects that you have in your room. Also, many spiders prefer to live in moist indoor areas, or in dark corners of your room which is where they might find comfort and safety.

Some spider species prefer to live in moist areas of your home, such as corners of your room and basements. Others like a slightly drier environment, such as air vents, or even your room.

Perhaps the biggest factor for the attraction of spiders is the presence of insects in your home.

Spiders are very opportunistic animals and are not afraid to set camp in locations where there are a lot of insects. If you have a damp room or live in a wet area, then the likelihood of you having insects in your room increases. And with that, there’s a higher chance that you’ll have spiders in your vicinity, too.

This is also another reason why it might appear as though some spiders are attracted to light when they actually aren’t. They’ll just appear in areas where there is light because other insects are there, as spiders will wait for their opportunity to strike.

“What About my Bed!?”

Some spiders might stay in your bed, because it’s a comfortable area with a lot of coverage, and it’s also relatively dark, meaning they are able to stay hidden.

If you live in an area with a lot of spiders, then you probably know the struggle. The problem, however, is when a potentially harmful spider enters your bed. You might not even realize it as your spider enters your bed.

For the majority of people though, this will not be a big problem. Even though some spiders like beds, the majority of them are harmless to humans and will run away if you enter the bed anyway.

Conclusion

A spider will stay in your room as long as it has enough food. If there are many insects in your room, then a spider will potentially stay in your room for very long periods without you even noticing.

In addition, spiders are resourceful and are capable of surviving for months or even years without food. They might hide under your bed or behind furniture, where they will be relatively untouched and will sustain themselves with insects in your room. Of course, some people are afraid of spiders or don’t like their presence, so they choose to remove them.
